OLIN Yacht Design is an independent yacht design studio based in the Netherlands, founded in 2020 by yacht designers Lars Nobel and Mathieu Almekinders. With more than 30 years of combined experience in yacht and superyacht design, the studio brings together yacht design, naval architecture and concept development under one roof.
Our approach is rooted in a simple belief: a yacht should be considered as a whole.
From the first idea, we look at design, performance, engineering and the experience on board as one, creating yachts that are distinctive, balanced and made to work in the real world.
DESIGN & EXPERIENCE
OLIN’s experience comes from years spent developing sailing yachts and superyachts, from the first sketch and concept through to detailed design and construction. Sailing is an important part of that experience. We regularly spend time on the water, both racing and cruising, gaining first-hand understanding of how yachts perform, move and are experienced by those on board. Their experience includes international regattas and offshore races as well as cruising.
This practical perspective informs every OLIN project.
TIMELESS BY DESIGN
We are drawn to yachts with a strong sense of proportion, clarity and character. Our work often brings together timeless hull lines with contemporary design, creating yachts that feel relevant today without being tied to a particular moment. Our work spans new yacht design, naval architecture, refit and restoration, including projects where modern technology and engineering meet the character and craftsmanship of classic yachts. Their complementary experience and shared passion for sailing form the foundation of the studio. Together, they lead each project closely, maintaining a direct relationship with owners, builders and the specialists involved.

ON THE WATER
Sailing is an essential part of the OLIN Yacht Design approach. We continue to race and sail internationally, bringing first-hand experience of performance, handling and life on board into their design work.
Over the years, we have competed in J-Class Superyacht cup, Loro Piana Superyacht regatta, Rolex Maxi World Championship and Fast 40+ regattas, as well as major offshore races including the Rolex Fastnet, Rolex Middle Sea Race and Rolex Sydney–Hobart. Their racing experience also includes Swan 45 World Championships and Melges 32 racing.
We continue to spend time on the water, racing, cruising and experiencing yachts in the conditions for which they are designed.
For OLIN Yacht Design, sailing is not just an interest. It is part of the design process.
